Leslie Parker
Leslie Parker is a Toronto-based painter capturing the city's overlooked spaces in oil — places encountered in the course of daily life that stop her in her tracks. Drawing on a background in architecture, she is drawn to moments where light, season, and the passage of time converge: a snow-covered street, vines consuming a wall, dappled shadow on a fence. Each painting is approached as an object in itself, where brushstroke, colour, and pattern evoke a specific place and moment.
Her process begins with photographs taken during walks in east Toronto, capturing light and season. In the studio, these images become starting points she freely alters and abstracts. The paintings evolve as she scrapes back and adds layers, mirroring how the urban spaces she paints change over time.
