- The Kalaviṅka is a celestial bird of Buddhist paradise, famed for its wondrous voice. Depicted with a human head and bird's body, it appears in the Western Pure Land of Amitābha Buddha, where its songs proclaim the Dharma and inspire beings toward enlightenment. This image is adapted from the Western Pure Land Transformation mural in Yulin Cave 25 of Sui Dynasty, one of the masterpieces of Dunhuang Buddhist art.
