Golden Sand Mizusashi

Artist
Sheryl Ebon Martinez
Description
An important equipage in the Japanese tea ceremony (Chanoyu), this mizusashi or water jar was thrown on the wheel using porcelain clay made in-studio by the artist before carving out a pattern that creates depth and texture. The layers of shino glaze and various oxides add more richness to the surface of the piece. This was fired in reduction to a high temperature of 1280 degree Celsius in a gas kiln.
