Our Lady of the Orioles

Artist
Francie McGlynn
Description
I suspect palaeolithic cave paintings were the magic work of the hunters. I think that the gatherers had their own ways of connecting with the spirit world. I imagine them making talismans with the things that were easily accessible, things such as nests, fur, bones, shells, etc. This piece, 'Our Lady of the Orioles' has a Goddess figutrine, (made primarily of stones and wolf fur), hidden inside the womb of the nest. A fertility talisman that would ensure the safety of mother and child.
