Description

This oversized fortune cookie is hand built in stoneware and fired to 1305°C in a gas kiln. I carved layers of text into the surface, then scratched some away and softened others with iron oxide wash.

The writing includes languages I can read, write, speak, or have studied, including Chinese, English, Japanese, and French. None of them feel completely mine. The piece reflects an in between space where language becomes both a tool for belonging and a reminder of distance.
