Description
This series depicts prominent trans women from the 1980s and 90s drag and ballroom scene in New York. The subjects were chosen as examples of the joy and resilience of the trans community, despite the constant danger and prejudice they experienced. The paintings are visually inspired by the extravagant fashion from ballroom culture and the similarly bold, elaborate style used in early twentieth-century art. The materials used include acrylic paint on canvas and gold leaf.
