Welcoming

Artist
Myka Der
Description
Welcoming reframes Canadian multiculturalism within its settler colonial origins. The push for inclusion first arrived in Canada with the desire to fill the land stolen from Indigenous peoples. Canada did so by inviting European nations previously discriminated against and celebrating their differences. This vision however, excluded Indigenous and non-white populations. Welcoming presents this part of Canada’s contradicting past and highlights the importance of solidarity amongst communities.
