Description

Soucouyant, is a self-portrait work inspired by the shape-shifting, blood drinking, seductress/hag/witch figure in Caribbean folklore from which the piece takes its name.

In creating this work, I was interested in exploring gender and personal expression in the Caribbean diaspora through an embrace of a figure who embodies patriarchal fears surrounding women’s sexuality, anger, and practices of witchcraft.
