Supriya James
Supriya James is a Toronto-based contemporary landscape artist of Indo-Guyanese and Canadian heritages. After a successful career as a Communications Consultant, she continues to further her proclivity for expression via her most recent undergraduate degree - BFA Hon, Drawing and Painting Program (OCAD University).
Her body of work comprises large, colourful, abstracted paintings of Canadian and Guyanese landscapes with visual imagery embedded with political and metaphysical explorations of identity, ancestral history, and temporality that have formed her core consciousness.
Her emotive artworks are inspired by her own digital photography and implement both Western art tools and cross-disciplinary mark-making materials such as, ground turmeric, willow charcoal, and chalk pastel sticks - all reflecting her hybrid cultural identity and to connect the viewer to the natural environment's immediate need of stewardship.
A recipient of the 2025 OCAD U/TOAF Career Launcher's Award, the 2025 OCAD U/Partial Gallery Career Launcher's Award, and OCAD University's 2025 Dean's Scholarship, Supriya will be pursuing an Interdisciplinary Master's in Art, Media, and Design MFA program at OCAD University in September, 2025.
