Born in Hong Kong, but raised and living in Toronto, my camera has been my companion for more than 30 years. In the last 10 years, my photography practice has focused capturing candid moments in the streets of Toronto and other cities around the world. My influences include Fan Ho - for his poetic images of Hong Kong, Saul Leiter - for his layered, reflective and abstract images of NYC, and the cinematography in Hitchock films and film noir - for the atmospheric tension those films invoke. Like many of Edward Hopper’s works, I am drawn to quiet, in-between moments where people seem suspended in time; where they are within, yet seem apart from the world around them.

Using contrast, negative space, and subtle interplay of light, my images aim to reveal overlooked scenes where private is made public and where the pulse of the city briefly slows to unveil quiet moments of solitude and reflection. Whether in black and white or in colour, I aim to present an alternate view of our urban spaces and invite viewers to reconsider how we see our cities and each other.

My work has been previously presented in international shows and exhibitions including the Treviso Photographic Festival in Treviso, Italy and at TheStreetSoup Art Gallery in Milan, Italy. I am excited that this will be my first appearance at TOAF.
