Sandamali Angunawela

I am a self-taught Canadian artist, originally from Sri Lanka. My primary mediums include acrylic paint and pencil drawings in graphite, coloured pencil and charcoal. My inspirations stem from cultural representations and visual interpretations of the human form. Having been raised in a third world country, my practice primarily incorporates the raw hardship and resilience faced by the people of developing countries through my drawings. I also capture the physical beauty of human beings in pure, naked, and stilled movements through acrylic paint as another form of interpretation.

I am an emerging artist, having started my artistic practice in the last five years, developing skills and techniques, while also featuring in a variety of fairs, festivals, and exhibitions across the GTA and Quebec. In that time, I have been the recipient of several art awards, including the Emerging Artist by Emerging Curator award from Toronto Outdoor Art Fair (TOAF) in 2022.
