Michael Martins is a multidisciplinary Canadian artist and educator born in Brampton, ON. Michael fell in love with the visual arts when a middle school crush challenged him to a drawing challenge (which he lost). However, he became enamoured by the creation process and began drawing every day. Michael studied at Queen’s University under Canadian artists Dan Hughes and Brian Hoad. His time at Queen’s completely elevated his practice and defined his style. Michael’s work can be defined by his high-contrast, high-energy and high-saturation dynamic portraits. Each piece contains a plethora of figures and plenty of rhythm, emphasized by his loose brushstroke and wet paint drips. Michael has exhibited across Greater Toronto Area and Kingston. Recently, he participated in Artist Project 2026, Youngplace Holiday Art Fair (2025), and Riverdale Art Walk (2024)
