After obtaining a bachelor’s in fine arts (BFA) from U of M (QC) in 1999, I devoted the last 25 years of my professional art practice studying nature observed while traveling within Canada in search of places little or not affected by the human presence. I am blown away by the beauty and vastness of the Canadian territory and I try to capture the stroke of that emotion when depicting a chosen scenery. I paint realistic landscapes with oil on very large canvases. I devote much of my attention to fine details which gives my work a surreal feel.
Born in the Laurentians (QC), Julie Desmarais has lived and worked in Montreal for 30 years. In 2004, she obtained a scholarship and a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Laurentians (QC). Since then, she has exhibited her paintings in several galleries and participated in numerous contemporary art fairs in Canada and the United States. Her oil paintings are found in national and international private and public art collections.
