Jessie Chen
Jessie Chen is a self-taught artist based in Toronto, Ontario. Having a great interest in art at the young age of 5, she truly immersed herself in painting at the beginning of the global pandemic, working primarily with acrylic paint. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, she has moved to many different cities throughout her life, and have lived in many different places she called home. As memory fades over time, what is leftover is the sense of calm associated with these places. At difficulty times, she especially yearns for the feelings of those places evoke. Muted colour palettes are frequently used to symbolize the haziness of distant memories. Her body of work encapsulates the relationship between gentle light and shadows in scenes that hopes to trigger familiarity and serenity- a place to escape.
