Jamileh Salek’s career spans more than three decades, during which she has been featured in over 70 solo and group exhibitions and was awarded a Toronto Arts Council grant. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Iran and has authored articles on Postmodern art, Feminism, and Pluralism. Jamileh is a member of several esteemed organizations including the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), the Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators and Performers (CANSCAIP), and the Canadian Children's Book Center (CCBC). She divides her time between creating new series of paintings, illustrations, and fibre art.

As a child, Jamileh's grandfather used to tell her many stories, one of which was about Malik Memmed. The imagery from this tale stayed with her, fueling her desire to someday illustrate it. Finally, she embarked on illustrating this story by creating miniature pieces using a light pen (digital art), which are part of this fairy and legendary tale.
