Harriet Liu
I am a contemporary landscape painter based in Oakville, Ontario, working primarily in acrylic. My paintings explore how light and atmosphere shape our experience of a place. Painting outdoors allows me to respond directly to the nature and its changing light, colour, and I seek to capture the character of a landscape and the feelings it evokes.
I am a graduate of Sheridan College’s Visual and Creative Arts Advanced Diploma program. My work received First Prize at the Oakville Art Society Annual Juried Exhibition in 2025 and an Honourable Mention at the Fine Arts Society of Milton Juried Show in 2026. I have also been selected to exhibit at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair 2026.
I received Oakville Arts Council artist project grant to work on a neighbourhood-based landscape series: “Close to Home Close to Heart”.
A formative experience in my practice was volunteering in early childhood education in Cusco, Peru, in 2015. Witnessing the resilience of Indigenous communities and their ability to create beauty, warmth, and hope despite limited resources deepened my understanding of perseverance.
My 2025 residency at Slipvillan Artist-in-Residence in Stockholm, Sweden, deepened my interest in the relationship between light, shadow, nature, and architecture.
