David is a Toronto based painter whose photorealistic acrylics celebrate the weather-beaten houses, fishing stages and rugged coastlines of his native Newfoundland, along with occasional village scenes and vintage vehicles he encounters on his travels. His subjects can include a sagging wharf, laundry on the line or an antique Chevy truck. He uses a camera to capture his subjects then translates them onto canvas or panel in his studio. He uses small to mid-scale canvasses because they are more intimate, like the buildings he paints, and the town where he grew up. They invite the viewer to step closer and notice every clapboard and rusty nail. His paintings tend to evoke memories of earlier places and times and reflect the feelings he has for his beloved Newfoundland.
