Azar Ebrahimi
I am an Iranian-Canadian visual artist working in painting and drawing, with over ten years of dedicated
practice. I began my artistic journey in Iran under the mentorship of Bahman Mohammadi, where I developed a
strong foundation in figurative painting and a sustained focus on the human body. Alongside this training, I
continued my learning through various art-related courses and workshops, following an ongoing and
experiential approach to education.
After immigrating to Canada, painting became a space for re-examining lived experience, migration, and the
body’s relationship with its environment. My work centers on the human figure and engages with themes of
identity, femininity, presence and absence, and states of transition. Working primarily with oil painting while
also incorporating acrylic and mixed media, I treat material choice as part of the process of discovery.
Through figurative imagery, I explore the complexities of human experience, where the body becomes a vessel
for both personal memory and collective narrative. For me, painting is not merely representational, but a way of
staying with questions and unresolved moments.
