Tatjana Hutinec

Born in Germany in 1965, I grew up and studied in Zagreb, Croatia. Connection to art began in childhood - playing in aunt’s atelier, later, I apprenticing with Ana Hutinec, Croatian sculptor/painter. While studying Clay sculpture at School of Applied Arts, Zareb, and getting BA in Textile Art & Clothing Design at Zagreb University, I exhibited at prominent Croatian & international shows, won Awards, was included in the book “Contemporary Ceramics in Croatia” and featured in Newspapers. During my visit to Toronto in 1990 I became displaced by the Homeland war outbreak in Croatia. Staying in Toronto was an only option. Without assets– I babysat and painted, thought community workshops, built sets/costumes for theatrical productions. I explored many techniques and mediums. Painting (oil and acrylic on canvas) and creating sculptures/installations (chicken-wire, fibre, resin, latex) are main choices.
I’ve been exhibiting in group and solo shows in Toronto since 1996.

Some of overarching, themes in my practice include: exploring identity, mythology, folktales, artefacts, science, human nature, epigenetics, psychology, observing clouds, connecting to nature
