Samira Sukhatme
I didn’t set out to become an artist, but somewhere between the beauty of brutalist architecture and the rhythm of birdsong in the forests of India and BC, art found me. I'm Samira Sukhatme, a former architect turned mixed-media painter, blending structure with soul. My work explores the tension between the built and natural worlds, often layered, sometimes up to 15 layers deep—with acrylics, pastels, and even embroidery.
Originally from Mumbai and now based in Vancouver, I’m inspired by everything from vintage design to fleeting encounters with animals. Through each piece, I try to spark wonder, joy, and a quiet reconnection to the earth.
I create paintings, murals, and illustrations, and I happily take on commissions.
