Come explore my garden with me! We'll get up close and personal with a microscope and a paintbrush.
My new project, ‘Cultivated’, draws on my experience as a biologist, gardener, and artist. Produce from my allotment garden serves as source material for various abstract artworks.
As an abstract artist, I embrace what is unique about my subject as I perceive it. In this case, the subject consists of the images I observe through my vintage 1950s microscope. Each different plant’s cells have their own character.
The colour in each painting and monotype comes from the plant or from the stain I used to make the cells easier to see.
