Genie Kim
Born and raised in South Korea, I earned my BFA from the School of Fine Arts at Hongik University in Seoul. My work, both illustrative and playful, centers on the love, sacrifice, and cycles of Mother Nature, and the emotional restoration found through art. These themes first emerged in my painting series Mother Tree and Healing Flowers, and now continue through my ceramic practice.
Each ceramic piece is hand-pinched in my home studio and serves as a sculptural extension of my painted world. Echoing the imagery and symbols from my paintings, the surfaces are individually hand-painted before or after the second firing. Painterly and intimate, my ceramics carry forward the emotional resonance and quiet strength that define my work across mediums.
