Elske deGroot
An award winning artist working with the mediums of encaustic and photography, Elske deGroot, tends to focus on framed instances that often go unnoticed in their original context - snippets of time and place.
Through her use of encaustic, a technique involving melted beeswax and pigments, Elske creates textured or smooth surfaces that reflect the tactile nature of the scenes themselves. She builds up layers of wax and pigment, scraping or smoothing the surface to reveal glimpses of the underlying photo structure. In doing so, she highlights the interplay between the natural and man-made elements that make up each scene, drawing attention to the intricate details that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Elske also leads Creative Awakening Retreats in Europe every year.
