Aurora Simmons graduated from the jewellery arts program at George Brown in 2008, and has been making jewellery ever since. In 2011 she was diagnosed with Psoriatic arthritis, a chronic auto-immune disorder, which changed her perspective on life and her work. Jewellery became, not just a form of joyous self expression, but also a way to channel her chronic pain into something that inspires her and others. Despite the challenges she faces with pain, in context of the hands-on work of making jewellery, she still finds great delight in the process, and self-employment allows her the flexibility she needs to rest when her body demands it. Aurora has always found great solace in growing things and in the woods. She tries to express the peace that she experiences in the wilderness into all of her work, so she can share that beauty with others.
