PAUL ALOISI is a Canadian artist who works across and integrates disciplines including sculpture, installation and inter-media abstraction. His practice involves both permanent public artworks and unsolicited ephemeral interventions to engage the public and stimulate their participation in ‘moments of art’. Aloisi is an Assistant Professor at OCAD University in Toronto.

LANGUAGE STRUCTURES: Sculptural works exploring relationships between typography, architecture and social space.
Examining letterforms as building blocks of communication, ‘Language Structures’ underlines Aloisi’s critical perspectives on mass media in the built environment, particularly in public social spaces in an urban context. These new sculptures have been developed using algorithm aided design techniques advancing Aloisi’s work involving letterforms assembled as architectural units. An interdisciplinary experiment testing the confluence of typography and architecture; revealing the structural potential of a communicative exoskeleton; examining thresholds of two and three dimensions.
