Description

Merman with wings, likely singing while swimming is made of a clay head and a wire armature which is subsequently built up with paper and ornamented with a tapestry of antique music, the oldest of which is from 1723 and the most recent is 1945. This piece is a tribute to the dancers of the world and the watery wonder of their ways. The dancer is the personification of music. At the heart of music, there is a beat, the beat beckons the body and dance is borne. Hooray for dance and dancers.
