Sharon Hunter
Sharon Hunter is originally from Toronto and migrated to the Algoma North in 2009. Her paintings are fictional weaves of stories told and shared from communities in the region she lives. Many of her paintings depicting these stories are large scale murals installed as billboards along HWY 17 from Blind River through to Sault Ste. Marie Ontario.
This body of work, ‘Souvenir’, explores diverse notions of Land in multiple and interwoven contexts. While travelling along HWY 17 on my motorcycle, I have been stopping at motels - both occupied and abandoned, taking photographs, and collecting ephemera. I am interested in motel signage, postcards, blankets, trinkets of memory and how these things fold back into commonly held and changing ideas of travel and journey and time.
