Olivia Aguiar

City
Toronto

Olivia Aguiar (b. 1999, Tkaronto, ON) is a visual artist based in Tkaronto, ON. Olivia’s practice is multi-disciplinary including new media, airbrush, collage and oil painting. Olivia is dazzled by the spectrality of digital imagery, and pulls from her personal archives spanning family photos, pop-culture and iPhone pictures to create painted and digital works. Through this practice, Olivia builds worlds which explore spirituality, obsession, compulsion and abject femininity. Her work follows in alignment with Mad politics to investigate the relationship between digital, visual culture and the objectification of Mad/feminine subjectivities.

Olivia graduated from OCAD University with an honours BFA in Drawing and Painting and a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies (2023). Olivia's most recent show is the group exhibition Ghost Bodies at The Plumb and she is the recent recipient of the Research and Creation grant from the Toronto Arts Council.
