Alana Evans is a graduate from Emily Carr University of Art and Design with a BFA in Visual Arts. Her passion for art and creative expression started as a child growing up in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. She is currently a resident of Langley, BC.
Alana draws her inspiration from a keen interest in the Western Canadian Landscape. She has traveled throughout this region and is intrigued by environmental climate and manmade events – this is has intersected her creative work by portraying the landscape and its constant evolution.
Inspired by her nostalgia for the BC terrain and its environment, Alana is moved to capture the lakes, mountains, flora and the ever-changing skies. She is interested in depth and texture with the layers of oil medium work, the canvas becomes as rich and complex as she is. Alana fits into the fauvism style that utilizes color for an emotional connection and response to her expressive painterly brush work. Her paintings can be described as warm with dark and moody undertones; leaving the viewer with the invitation to explore the dream-like quality of her memories in the landscape she grew up in.

As and oil painter, Alana prefers to paint on birch panels that have been primed with transparent gesso. Using the transparent gesso allows the warm tone of the wood to show thru the transparent layers of paint, it also gives the surface a 'paper like' feeling. Building up the painting from layers of colours gives the pieces dimension and then adding texture with oil bar paint adds more visual interest.

Alana’s work has been in gallery shows throughout BC, and her work is held in private collections in Canada and the United States.
