“Tamed” is a series of drawings that employs surrealist-style hair imagery as a metaphor for control and authority that subjugate women. It marks an early experiment in using the delicacy and vulnerability of traditional Chinese Xuan paper to evoke feminine qualities and reference the female body, while drawing inspiration from the aesthetics of line in traditional Chinese painting, where expressive lines embodies emotion, rhythm, and restraint.
