In the Court of Public Opinion

In the Court of Public Opinion

Artist
Mark Krzepis
Description
Around 1730, Francesco Bertos’ gravity defying sculptures raised the eyebrows of the Italian Inquisition. The Catholic group accused Bertos of using the Devil’s magic to create his artworks. To prove his innocence, he was forced to sculpt a block of marble in court under the gaze of the inquisition. At what point does talent become evil?/ at what point does success garner hatred? This piece is a testament to artists who are scorned with criticism and misinterpretation.
