Zahra Saleki
Zahra Saleki is an Iranian-Canadian interdisciplinary artist and settler based in Tkaronto/Toronto. Working across photography, participatory art, video, and installation, her practice explores migration, memory, vulnerability, and the ways human connection can transform personal and collective narratives. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cultural Studies from York University.
Her recent work includes the ongoing participatory photography project 8 Minutes, presented in Mexico City, New York, and Toronto, where participants anonymously share personal stories before responding through movement, creating collaborative photographic portraits of vulnerability and resilience.
Saleki's solo exhibitions include I Will Stay There, Even in Pieces at the Aga Khan Museum (2022), Call My Name at Laurier University (2019), and This Storm Is You at Samara Contemporary (2019) and Pamenar (2018). Her work has also been exhibited at the Ontario Science Centre, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and Nuit Blanche Toronto.
In 2024, Saleki received the Catherine Bratty Award for Best of Art Fair at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair. Her work has been featured by CBC, Canadian Art, NOW Magazine, BlogTO, BOOOOOOOM, Vice, Toronto Guardian, The Creator Class, and other national and international media.
