Yoko Mori
Yoko Mori is a Toronto-based artist and photographer who is originally from Osaka, Japan. She was a wedding photographer there, and is now also a graphic designer, 2D and 3D artist. She’s had art and photography shows in Toronto, Japan and China.
Yoko is inspired by Asian, North American and European art, music and movies. Street art has also had a profound impact on her.
"Hide and Seek" is a collection of photographs documenting the street and stray cats she saw while travelling through West Japan. The country has a special relationship with wild cats and they roam freely in both urban and countryside settings.
Yoko was struck by the unique personality, character and soul of these animals and their relationship to the environment. They knew the secret chambers of their neighbourhoods like nothing else could, and Yoko was drawn into their mysteries like she was part of an untold storybook. There were hunters and lovers and mothers and rebels. Some were skittish. Others behaved like royalty. They wandered in and out of the lives of the locals like family, and all of them left their mark on Yoko. She tried to capture some of this through the lens.
