Tony Vettese
For Tony Vettese, art and ophthalmology have been a perfect visual dance. Painting is becoming the more regular partner. The journey of what we see from the eye to the brain is fascinating. The very precise image in the retina is painted on our visual cortex by our memories and emotions. Early training was in oils and figure drawing but transparent watercolour, which embodies colour and light. expresses this visual transformation especially well. The happiest result is dream like. Figures in the composition are best at telling the story. Pencil lines and masking lines add detail.
In this grouping memories come from early adolescence visiting grandparents in rural southern Italy. The 8 mm movies from those visits along with intense memories, are the source of inspiration.
Early training in oils and figure drawing is now supplemented with workshops and online teaching. Tony hopes to continue to evolve.
