Susan Gale
Susan Gale is a Toronto-based painter and member of the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation. Born in Stephenville, Newfoundland, she studied painting at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, graduating with a BFA in 2004. She has lived and worked in Toronto since 2005.
Gale’s paintings explore light, movement and atmosphere within urban life. Working from everyday scenes, she is drawn to moments where shifting conditions transform the ordinary, revealing a sense of presence within the city. Her work reflects an ongoing attention to how places are seen, experienced and quietly held in memory. Working in acrylic on cradled wood panel, Gale builds each painting through sustained observation of light and atmosphere.
Gale has exhibited across Canada and the United States for over fifteen years, with solo exhibitions in Toronto, Ottawa, Waterloo and Los Angeles. She is a two-time recipient of the Mayor’s Purchase Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, and her work has appeared on HGTV’s Property Brothers and Income Property, as well as House & Home.
