Sarah Hallman
Sarah Hallman is a visual artist and designer based in Ottawa. Her primary medium is printmaking, namely monoprinting, in combination with mixed media techniques. This expressive approach is the ideal “meeting place” for her to merge her love of drawing, photography, colour, translucency and composition. She is ever-seduced by the element of unpredictability and surprise that the pull of a one-off print brings. Her youth brought much change and adventure, having grown up in 5 different countries (Hungary, Norway, Korea, Malaysia and Canada). This movement imprinted on her, providing her with an endless cache of memories and passing scenes and relationships to pull from, as well the power of quiet observation that informs all of her work. Her monoprints are intimate, unique pieces that combine and transform elements from natural and abstract realms. They have an illustrative and sometimes whimsical quality, conveying mysterious, quiet, calm, and dreamlike scenes.
