‘Imperfection gives life’ - Niki de Saint Phalle

Now based in Toronto, I was born and grew up in Montreal, where I took my first art course at the Feminist Art Institute and became inspired by artists as diverse as Chagall and Judy Chicago.

Although I went on to take a degree in literature and a post -grad certificate in creative writing (ekphrastic poetry is a favourite!), I’ve continued to explore and develop my artistic skills through workshops and practice in drawing, painting, printmaking and, most recently, paper-making.

This series of mixed media paintings celebrates life in all its brokenness and beauty.

Influenced by cycles of decay and regeneration in the natural world, I recycle fragments of discarded paintings and combine these with torn papers and layers of paint.

Captivated by the sensuousness of the materials and the possibilities for endless combinations of colour, shape and texture, I work intuitively, adding and subtracting elements in response to the painting as it evolves.

I’ve participated in numerous juried shows - this is my 8th TOAF! - and my work is in private collections in Canada and the United States.

To see more of my work, connect with me via email or Instagram, or visit me at Booth E517, July 10-12th.
