Robert Potvin (SCA)
This will be Robert’s forth time presenting at the TOAF. Robert is a self-taught artist who works primarily in acrylics on board. With his paintings, he seeks to explore themes of individuality, isolation and obsolescence. Currently, he is incorporating more conceptual themes in his work. His love of the outdoors and interest in the vanishing lifestyles of rural Ontario still constitute a large part of his paintings. Derelict buildings, forgotten communities, abandoned barns and antiques all feed his imagination and regularly appear in his pieces. Although the subject matter varies widely, the interplay of light and shadow and attention to detail remains constant in his art. It is no coincidence that Robert’s paintings tend to be full, yet sparse enough to allow and even encourage interpretation and participation. Robert is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists. He is a member at large on the Board of Directors of the Society of Canadian Artists and the Ontario Representative for the Association as well. Robert was the recipient of the 2024 56th Society of Canadian Artists Juried Online Exhibition 3rd Award of Excellence. He was the First Prize Winner in the category of acrylic paint at the 45th Annual La Cloche Art Show.
