Sasha Q

My name is Sasha Q (real name Oleksandra Stepanenko) and I'm an artist born in Kyiv, Ukraine. Graduate of Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of decorative-applied Arts and Design. I was forced to flee my home, where I left my studio and body of work, due to the russian invasion in February of 2022, and currently live and work in Toronto, Canada.

My art is an extension of my consciousness, an endless source of exploration of its mysterious nature, and a place of travel. The ability to embody the product of one's consciousness in the form of art is the highest form of existence.

I have translated my life experiences into a collection of dreamcore pieces in which I explore the themes of escapism, solitude, and the boundaries of transcendental - knowledge that goes beyond sensory experience, and beyond the constraints of space and time. My current artistic practice has become my new sanctuary and a place of comfort. The pieces in this series are parts of one story reflecting various metamorphoses.

Since dichotomy is rooted in this collection I have noticed that the artworks act as a mirror of the observer's feelings, evoking opposite emotions in different people. Deep, immersive colours introduce the viewer to a state of trance and soul-healing meditation. The aesthetics draw inspiration from a range of styles, from magical realism to minimalism and OP art.
