Nahúm Flores
Honduran Canadian artist Nahúm Flores explores memory through materials and objects that transport him to the past. He makes sculptures with clay, wood, natural pigments, recycled cans, sardine tins and found objects. He draws inspiration from Mesoamerican aesthetics, where layering and transformation carry spiritual and cultural significance. He covers, deforms, and reshapes objects to give new meaning and breathe life into the discarded, while addressing concern for the environment.
Nahúm was born in Danlí, Honduras and immigrated to Canada at age 17, after living in Mexico and the United States. He holds a BFA in Drawing & Painting, and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art, Media & Design from OCAD University. He has been awarded grants from the Pollock–Krasner Foundation (NYC), the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council and the Sustainable Arts Foundation (San Francisco). His paintings and drawing installations have been widely exhibited in North America, Europe and Latin America. He is co-founder and active member of Z’otz* Collective.
Nahúm lives and works in Toronto.
