Margaret Millar
My name is Margaret Millar, I am a flamework glass craft artist living, working, playing and exploring in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. A Bachelor of Design with OCAD University ignited my interest in how we interact and communicate through object and design. Under my brand Wild and Wise Studio Glass, my practice has become an extension of a nature journal - rooted in the exploration of how we are both disconnected from and intrinsically tied to the often unseen consciousness of nature. Inspired by the spirit and beauty of easily overlooked objects and by placing them in our daily lives, each piece’s functional design expresses the relationship between subject and environment. Worn by winds and shifting tides, I incorporate found objects, metal and fibre work with flameworked glass elements. This jewellery collection is a study of the pebble and beachscape. Each glass bead is blown or shaped, exploring form, colour and the chemical reaction between molten glass and metal.
