Julie Gagne
Julie Gagné is a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist from Saguenay, Quebec. Her artistic journey, deeply influenced by intense life experiences, reflects a quest for resilience and creative freedom. Diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder since childhood, Julie often struggled to fit into traditional academic structures. This challenge pushed her to carve her own path outside of conventions, transforming her irrepressible need for self-expression into a driving force behind her artistic career.
Her teenage years, marked by time spent in youth centers and periods of self-destruction, gave way to a rebirth through art. At the age of 25, Julie began teaching herself various techniques, including welding, woodworking, painting, photography, digital art, sculpting, and molding. This diverse expertise allows her to blend multiple mediums, creating a unique, bold, and instinctive style.
As the founder of Jee Art and Design, Julie led a business for 15 years that specialized in artistic furniture and custom-made creations. She combined innovation and aesthetics to design unique pieces that marry functionality with her artistic vision. Proudly part of the LGBTQ+ community and rooted in her Indigenous heritage, she incorporates narratives of difference, identity, and taboos into her work, addressing themes such as homosexuality, the sexualization of women, and the balance between extremes.
Her art, influenced by urban art movements, explores complex themes through striking characters and visuals. For Julie, each piece is an exploration of human emotions and a reflection on profound existential questions.
Art is not just a tool for expression for Julie—it is a process of healing and transformation. Her artistic journey is a testament to her courage and determination to overcome challenges and share deeply authentic and powerful creations with the world, always seeking raw emotions and meaning.
