Julia McNeely
The Life Moments series by Julia McNeely encapsulates the feelings, the trials, and the tribulations of early stages of motherhood; loss and abandonment through life; and the realities of elderly care. This series represents the moments that we as a collective society face. Although womanhood is a central focus of this series, considering that the artist is a single mother of three and solo cares for her elderly father, there is a vast dichotomy in her work that can be interpreted through the eyes of every viewer, no matter who they are or how they identify. Joy and loss go hand-in-hand in life and can’t be seen as singular feelings, in the same sense that there is no solo meaning behind this work. Life Moments is truly just a reflection of nurturing, struggles, joy, and the intricacy of life.
This series is created with acrylic paint on canvas
