Despite our reliance on photography as a means to make memories stand still, moments worth remembering can only endure when they are routinely recounted and shared. By liberating chosen photographs from my private family albums and translating them into paintings, I hope to engage in a practice of keeping memories alive. To leave room for viewers to recognize, or perhaps find familiar, the personal moments in my paintings, I gravitate towards source photographs that are narratively ambiguous.
