Holly Atkinson is a Canadian sculptor whose work moves between figurative presence and abstract form, shaped through the elemental forces of ceramic and bronze. Born in Orillia, Ontario, she developed an early fascination with the tactile language of materials — a curiosity that later led her across continents in pursuit of artistic skill and expression.

Atkinson earned her BA in Art Education at the University of Toronto and Sheridan College before continuing her studies in Paris, France, where she worked under the renowned painter Mac-Avoy. Her training there deepened her understanding of gesture, form, and the emotional resonance of the human figure. Throughout her career, she has also worked as a graphic artist and muralist, experiences that refined her eye for composition, line, and spatial rhythm.

For more than thirty years, Atkinson immersed herself in the world of bronze casting, working directly within the foundry environment. This long, hands-on relationship with metal informs the honesty, weight, and permanence evident in her sculptural voice. Her ceramic works, by contrast, reveal a softer, more intimate sensitivity — forms that hold the warmth of the hand and the subtlety of clay's shifting nature.

Her sculptures in clay and bronze explore the tension between authentic identity and the facades we construct to navigate the world. By marrying the raw, malleable fragility of clay with the permanent, armored nature of bronze, she examines vulnerability as both a human weakness and a source of strength. Fascinated by how surfaces hide, protect, or reveal the emotional interior, Holly creates work that express identity, persona and image that is perceived or hidden. The work invites viewers to look beyond the exterior mask and confront the complex, often contradictory, inner self. Each piece acts as a physical manifestation of the psychic space between who we are and who we appear to be, utilizing textured, honest materials to bridge the gap.

Holly is a member of The Sculptor’s Society of Canada, The Ontario Society of Artists, The Women’s Art Association of Canada and The Medallic Art Society of Canada.
Her sculptures are in collections in Europe and North America.
Her studio is located in Guelph.
