Holly Atkinson
Holly Atkinson is a sculptor working from her studio in Guelph.
Her art mediums are bronze and ceramics.
She received her BA from University of Toronto and Sheridan College where she studied under the painter Edouard Georges Mac-Avoy in Paris, France, early in her career.
Holly uses the lost wax process for bronze casting which takes 4-6 weeks to produce, from the original wax, gating, pouring, finishing to patina.
Contemporary in design, her work portrays faces and the human form in figurative and abstract style.
Atkinson's sculptures often include texture, fabric and details from nature. A vision of people, places and things.
Her bronze faces and masks are contemporary, unique and minimal in design.
The new series portrays faces in a continual decline of shape and form from the present to age and decay, hoping for discussion about our planet and the current challenges.
Her recent ceramic series incorporates hand building and slab techniques, more colour, faces and busts of people she has met.
Atkinson's sculptures are found in collections in Iceland, Sweden, Europe and North America.
Holly is a member of the Sculptor's Society of Canada, The Medallic Art Society of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Artists.
