Ewa Stryjnik
Ewa Stryjnik has BFA in Painting from University of Waterloo and MFA from York University.
Former art instructor at Art Gallery of Ontario (2000-2010). Founder and art instructor at Project Art Toronto (2010-2024). Presently, art educator at McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg (2023-).
Abstract landscape paintings are inspired by her road trips to Côte-Nord-du-Saint-Laurent, Kegaska, Quebec and Labrador (2019, 2021).
There is an enormous solitude when travelling the Canadian north. The paintings are about her journey outwards to remote, isolated regions, at the same time, they are about the inward journey of self-discovery and understanding. The joy of being present, here and now, in the sheer beauty and vastness of the untamed land.
Starting with photos, painting becomes an intuitive process of layering colour combinations, impasto, glazes, drawing and printmaking techniques in order to convey the energy of her experiences within the landscape.
