Oshawa-based sculptor Erika Takacs was born and raised an ethnic Hungarian in the Transylvania region of Romania. She emigrated to Canada in her twenties, and started developing skills in clay techniques on a part-time basis. After many years in Toronto, she relocated to Oshawa, where the lack in resources prompted her to research alternative materials. She came across paper pulp, a versatile yet challenging material. Intrigued and delighted by this material’s demanding yet rewarding nature, she immersed herself into unlocking its secrets.
She participates in solo, two-person and group shows, and is the recipient of numerous sculpture awards. Her art is in private collections across the world.
In 2022 she was part of a group exhibition about the Cold War at the Diefenbunker museum in Ottawa.
