Emma Goudie is a Korean Canadian multidisciplinary artist currently based in Hamilton, ON.
She is a recent graduate from OCADU and specialized in stop-motion animation during her time there.

Since graduating, Emma has collaborated with local artists on long -term projects and shown her thesis film, “ReBodying”, in the See You Again Arts Festival. She is fortunate to continue her practice with personal projects at home however, eager to continue showing her own independent work in festivals and galleries.

In a simultaneous tribute and departure from stop-motion animation, her current work showcases narratives in scenes of multi-planar paper-cutouts. Inspired by pop-up books, theatre performances, and ukiyo-e paintings, she uses the depth of her painting's frame to layer the paper cutouts. The layering and recession into the frame creates shadow casting over the work, displaying movement before the audience in real time.

To Emma, her new method displaying work has become an homage to stop-motion animation and a way to use 3-dimensional space even when confined to a still image.
