I’m from MacLellans Brook, or “the Brook”, Nova Scotia. It’s rural, rustic and worn with time. After graduating from NSCAD in 2003, I settled in Hamilton, Ontario (also known as Steel City, so…...contrast.) While I love Hamilton and the people, I miss the quiet solitude of Nova Scotia. I use a brush and palette knife to create a balance between abstraction and realism .
This 'Nailed It' Series is my most recent passion. To me, the nail in each painting embodies a personality shaped from the time it was hammered in place. The nails in my paintings are fully exposed. My respect for this vulnerability is celebrated in the beauty of each imperfection found in the intricate textures of oxidized metal, peeling paint and worn wood.
