Edith Kernerman

Nathan Phillips Square
Booth 176

Edith Kernerman (she/her) is a Canadian-born artist working in mixed-media sculpture installation, painting, photography, drawing, and digital media. She obtained her AOCA in Sculpture, Drawing/Painting from the Ontario College of Art and studied at St. Martin’s School of Art in London, UK. After sustaining injuries in a car accident in 2001 that affected her depth perception, hand-eye coordination, and strength in her hands, Kernerman stopped making art completely in 2002. Eighteen years later she decided it was time to face the challenges and make art once again.

Kernerman explores themes around humans in their environment and their interactions with each other when there are external challenges. In the past 4 years, she has focused on how people feel during and after traumatic times, the coping mechanisms they use, and how they process and deconstruct their thoughts and memories toward healing. She is most interested in how we might begin reconstructing thoughts and memories to find a positive, healthy, and powerful way to move forward and heal.

Kernerman has had solo and group exhibitions at various galleries and institutions in Toronto, New York, London, and Shanghai. Her work is in private, corporate, and public collections in Canada, the US, UK, France, China, Australia, and Japan.
